Cardinal Greenway

Carrington Woods is Conveniently Connected to the Cardinal Greenway Trail

History

Cardinal Greenway is the longest linear park in the state of Indiana, spanning more than 30 miles. "The multi-use greenway is part of a 60-mile project that provides a key community connection to area schools, parks, and local cultural and historic resources."¹

The rail-trail, originally the CSX railway line, went untouched during construction, preserving all the trees, plant life and creatures surrounding it. This unique park gives the community members a chance to experience nature and to improve their lives as well.

Carrington Woods is conveniently connected to the Cardinal Greenway Trail.

Trail Etiquette

Greenways are extremely popular for people of all ages. Moms with strollers use the same trail that roller bladers, joggers, cyclists and dog owners do. Sharing is a given. Everyone should obey the rules of the trail so problems can be avoided.

Please be mindful of these rules to ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone using the trail.

  • Trails are open dawn to dusk. Trails are closed at night.
  • Be courteous to other trail users.
  • Keep to the right and pass on the left. (Like driving a car on the street).
  • Please wear a helmet.
  • Alert other trail users BEFORE you pass them.
  • Do not block the trails. Imagine a line down the middle and remain on your half.
  • Obey traffic signals.
  • No motorized vehicles or horses on paved trails. Battery operated wheel chairs are permitted.
  • No alcohol or drugs on the trails.
  • Do not litter.
  • Keep your pets on a leash and pick up after them. Nobody wants to step or ride in your pets' gifts.
  • Do not trespass on adjacent land. Much of the land along the trail is private.
  • Yield to horses at horse trail crossings and when hiking the earthen trails.
  • Be nice! Smile and say "hello."
